Maritime Security Officer § 10 German Maritime Protection Regulation

Learn what’s involved in operating internationally in the high-risk region of the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Within 3 weeks you will acquire comprehensive knowledge for proof of expertise according to annex 1 to § 10 German Maritime Protection Regulation (SeeBewachV), and you will thus receive the basic qualification required for an employee in maritime security.

With the introduction of the § 31 GewO (trade regulation) by the Federal Republic of Germany, and under the supervision of the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control, this training course is now compulsory for any Maritime Security Officer who intends to work on vessels flying the German flag, or to work for German-licensed security companies in this field.

The conditions for participation are:

  • Secondary school leaving certificate or comparable educational level
  • No relevant criminal convictions as an adult (i.e. no entries in the Federal Central Criminal Register)
  • Sufficient knowledge of the German language

You will obtain knowledge in the following areas

  • Basic nautical knowledge (navigation, processes, terminology)
  • Law of public safety and order
  • Maritime law, commercial law, Civil Code, criminal law and und supplementary penal provisions
  • Foreign trade legislation (including laws pertaining to the relevant coastal and port states)
  • Trade association regulations
  • Reconnaissance, tactics, operational orders
  • Weapons law and weapons-related knowledge (the precondition for this is successfully passing a weaponry expertise examination for professional firearms bearers according to § 7 Weapons Law.)
  • Practical shooting (repeated at the latest every 90 days according to the regulations of DGUV regulation 23 (BGV C7) and the Weapons Law).

The course comprises 180 teaching units as consultation or working time. The costs are 1,452.60 € including teaching materials.
